JaWa:
Portraits of TransVariant People of Color
Just as We are
is a photo-docu book with a mission.
That mission is to:
Make visible Transwomen (MTF), Transmen (FTM), genderqueer, TG butch, femmequeens, gender variant, TG Intersex, third gender and no gender individuals of color with the intent of shining a light on a culture of people grossly understudied.
Demonstrate that the idea of gender has never been as fixed as it was once thought to be.
Offer personal insights into changing gender identity, parenting, love and relationships, coming out, workplace issues, and more.
Illuminate those individuals, whose gender is more fluid than male or female, proving that biology doesn't control destiny.
Replace postmodern textbook definitions of 'identity politics' with first-hand accounts and experiences of what it truly means to live as gender variant.
Challenge society’s most fundamental assumptions about the relationship between identity, bodies, sexual orientation, gender psychology and desire.
